What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy bridges Yoga and Healthcare. The International Association of Yoga Therapists defines Yoga Therapy as "the process of empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and well-being through the application of the teachings and practices of yoga."

Yoga Therapists are trained to work one-on-one with individuals using yoga techniques, including postures, breathing techniques and meditation as well integrating modern medical physiology and psychological knowledge. Yoga Therapists do NOT take the place of doctors, therapists, chiropractors, or physical therapists. We are educators who teach individuals how the mind, body and energy works within the individual in an experiential way. The organic nature of yoga dissolves the hierarchical relationships often found in traditional medical fields.... we are “friends” in yoga, and this connection is unique to this 'whole body' healing process.
